Emotional health disorders can affect all areas of our lives. For example, our relationships, school, work, and our ability to participate in our communities. All month we've been talking about our emotional health. We've discussed a few types of clinical disorders. And more importantly, we've covered ways to treat them while still allowing us to live a fulfilled life.
Today, I want to discuss how some emotional health disorders; do not have to be something we struggle with our entire lives. Yes, a few specific disorders can make some of us feel completely overwhelmed and that our lives will never be "normal". Yet, there is a chance that what we are experiencing can be temporary. The first step is the acknowledgment of our situation. Next, is getting the proper help. And third, is keeping consistent with the treatment.
Now, for some of us our emotional health changes with our life's ups and downs. A new job could cause a period of anxiety or depression until we become fully adjusted. The ending of a relationship or the loss of a loved one can bring about a time of depression. For some a few months, while others a few years. But most people eventually find a way out of the depression and find a healthy way to process the grief and loss.
Other disorders such as anger, eating disorders, hoarding, obsessive-compulsive disorders, panic attacks, phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder or even traumas can with the right and consistent treatment; go into periods of remission that allow the sufferer to have years of relief from the once debilitating symptoms. There are so many forms of medications, treatments, and ongoing therapies that allow people to have a good chance at living a full life.
Many people who once had emotional disorders that fully controlled every aspect of their lives have gone on to enjoy healthy relationships, wonderful work environments, able to participate in community events, and the ability to travel and do all the things that once seemed forbidden. There can be happiness on the other side of a once-debilitating emotional disorder.
